Fremont’s commercial heart sits where Fremont Ave N meets N 36th St, zoned Neighborhood Commercial with apartments above storefronts. The flat blocks along the Ship Canal — once industrial — now host offices and studios, while Lowrise zoning climbs the slope and gives way to Neighborhood Residential toward upper Fremont.
The Burke-Gilman Trail runs along the canal, frequent buses cross the Fremont Bridge, and RapidRide E runs on Aurora Ave N at the neighborhood’s eastern edge. The 2026 reforms legalized multiplexes of up to six homes across Fremont’s NR blocks.
